PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION:

The threat to the United States from terrorist organizations with global reach has changed drastically since 9/11. This talk will use the Chicago Project on Security and Threats (CPOST) suicide attack database and other research to examine how and why the threat landscape has shifted as Dr. Pape reviews the key differences between Al Qaeda, ISIS and other terrorist organizations around the world. Along the way, we will attempt to answer several key questions. What do the different motivations of these groups tell us about how the US should combat them? Who are our best partners in the fight against extremism? Why is ISIS so much better at recruiting Westerners that past groups? Finally, how does this effect our security on the state and local level?
