2018 Accomplishment

The Illinois Security Professionals Association worked closely with Chief Marc Maton, chair of the ILACP Legislative Committee, John Carr, Lobbyist, Edward Williams JD, Williams Nickl and State Senator Antonio Munoz in the drafting of a bill, SB 2642 addressing the ability of private security contractor firms to hire retired law enforcement officers and put them to work immediately as armed officers. Prior to the bill being created, there was a time lag of up to six (6) months before a retired police officer could work as an armed officer for the private security contractor. ISPA Chairman Larry Doria and President Paul Ohm, CPP represented ISPA at a committee hearing in Springfield speaking to the value of this proposed legislation. SB 2642 was passed by the House and Senate and on August 3, 2018, was signed into law by Governor Rauner. The benefit of this legislation is private security contractor firms in Illinois are now able to hire retired police officers and put them to work the next day as armed officers
