Officers Kevin O'Connor and Bryan Poradzisz

On March 10, 2016, Officers Poradzisz and O'Connor responded to the area of Higgins Road and West Frontage Road to see about a toddler who was reported choking in a vehicle.  The toddler was travelling home from a Schaumburg restaurant with her great grandmother and grandmother when they noticed their granddaughter choking.  They immediately pulled over and called 911.  Within two minutes of being dispatched, Officer Poradzisz arrived on the scene and ran to the victim who was laying face up on the shoulder of the road.  Officer Poradzisz observed that the toddler was in distress and not breathing.  Officer Poradzisz picked up the toddler and performed several back blows and abdominal thrusts in an attempt to get her to breathe again.  Officer O'Connor arrived moments after and assisted with administering back blows and abdominal thrusts.  The toddler soon regained consciousness and started to breathe on her own and was rolled onto her side to keep her from choking again.  As the Schaumburg Fire Department arrived, Officer Poradzisz picked up the toddler and ran her to the waiting ambulance for advanced life support care and transport to the hospital.

It was later learned the toddler made a full recovery from this incident.
