Title: “Understanding Facial Recognition Technology and its Legal Implications”

Description: As camera surveillance systems continue to proliferate, the fields of image data available for analysis continue to grow.  Inside and outside the security field, there is continued pressure to maximize the use of that image data.  One of the analytic tools growing in popularity is facial recognition technology.  This technology is being deployed for both security and non-security uses. Contemporaneously with the growing interest is the use of facial recognition analytics, are concerns raised regarding individual privacy, civil liberties, and potential discriminatory biases in the technology.  This had led to a growing body of legislative activity limiting use for facial recognition technology.  This presentation will examine facial recognition technology and the legal and policy implications in its use.

Learning Objectives:

This presentation will provide attendees with a greater understanding of the following:

  • Capabilities of facial recognition technology
  • Current facial recognition use cases
  • Developing legal responses to facial recognition technology
